Aerzen vacuum blowers with ATEX certification

First vacuum series for zone 0 (internal use)

Aerzen vacuum blowers, series HV are designed for conveyance of air and neutral gases. These machines are especially used in the industrial vacuum technology, such as the coating of gases and foils, the packing technology, metallurgy and many other applications. These blowers represent the most extensive vacuum series world-wide and cover with a total of 19 sizes nominal intake volume flows of 180 m³/h to 97.000 m³/h as well as pressure ranges from 10-3 mbar abs. to 200 mbar abs.

Especially in the chemical industry but also in other applications the ATEX requirements are increasing steadily. Many manufacturers interpret the ATEX guidelines in such a way that machines which are used in a pressure range of below 800 mbar are not subject to the certification. However, this is only partly correct, as the harmonized standard EN13463-1:2001 (D) adds clearly that in case of machines “not being within range of validity of this standard,….., the suitability of the devices for possible application conditions must be clearly described and be proven.”

With this in mind Aerzener Maschinenfabrik GmbH decided that the complete vacuum series is subject to a type testing according to guideline 94/9/EG, in order to provide plant manufacturers and users with safe solutions as per ATEX. Therefore, in March 2005 Aerzen vacuum blower series HV as well as blowers with canned motor of series CM were certified for zone O (internal), temperature class T3 (200 °C). Externally the blowers are approved for blowers for zone 1, temperature class T4 (135 °C).

An additional vibration monitoring of the blowers is necessary for zone 0. Grey cast or nodular cast can be applied as materials. A particular advantage for the customer when using the Aerzen ATEX solution is not requiring the extremely expensive alternative of a bypass. Aerzen ATEX-certification allows a so-called sucking of the pre-pump and an operation at limited speed of Aerzen vacuum blowers.

Further advantages of Aerzen vacuum blowers are the optimum selection range due to the biggest series world-wide, a detailed grading of the volume flows, as well as various modification possibilities for a variable adjustment also for special applications. In addition, the high mechanical load of blower stage (up to 200 mbar) enables a considerable decrease of pump-out periods. As standard, the sealing section is being equipped with bores for the optimal application of seal gas. In addition, only energy-saving EFF1-/EPACT motors are applied.
